Mosaic Sewing & the Art of Listening

So have I mentioned I consider myself an amateur at the art of "mosaic sewing"? What is that, exactly, do you ask? Welllll....I like to sew, but I can't follow a pattern to save my soul. So I gave up on that long ago and just sort of patch things together any way I feel like. It's a lot of trail and error. It includes things like corduroy patch pillows, messenger bags, purses, bed skirts, curtains, some mild clothing modifications, etc. I love to buy all kinds of fabric. I love all the textures and colors and patterns. I have a tub full of it. I wish I was skilled enough to make beautiful quilts...but not so much. I have had help in the past completing a patchwork sort of quilt, but haven't done one on my own just yet. Maybe I'll have to attempt one this year.

I kind of feel like my life is one giant patchwork-y sort of mess...so maybe that's why I enjoy it so much.

You kind of take a mess of all kinds of randomness and make something "pretty" out of it for someone to enjoy. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...and since often my home-made items go to someone like my mom, she always seems to like them, just because it's randomly "me" - made especially for her.

I'm so glad that in the same way, our Father in heaven loves all our heart-felt patchwork offerings we offer, even if they're nowhere near "perfectly made." I am fully aware that I could never write a song or sing it "well enough" to truly glorify God in all the ways He deserves to be glorified - hard as I try! And yet, He makes it clear that He loves our simple patchwork offerings...because it's about the heart with which we offer them - not about how perfect or "professionally presented" those gifts are. He is after our heart. And when He has our heart...He IS glorified. What a wonderful God we serve! Lord Jesus, help us to have hearts undivided before You - that we might honor you in all we say and do with each of our lives!

PSALM 86

11 Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.

Today I came across Karla Adolphe and her band "Jacob & Lily"...and can't stop listening. Sometimes my life is so music-full that I forget the art of just "listening" to it! Karla has recorded some wonderful music to play while writing blogs, cooking dinner...and sewing (which I did today)! Here is a woman who is doing what she was made to do, that is obvious to me. I love the way she pours her heart out so honestly and beautifully. After you listen, you too will likely wish she was one of your friends. :) Karla was also recently featured on a Worship Circle album called "Chair and Microphone Vol. 3". To check her music out, visit the links below...and let me know what you like to do while YOU listen! :)

Bless you all!
